Change one thing

The World Will Not Have Us

The world will not have us be anything it cannot use.
What we wish to be, it cannot use.
What we want to be, it cannot use.

We will be what it allows us to be,
in accordance with what it desires,
in keeping with what it wishes.

We are the only way the world can know itself.

And as in all investigation into what comprises
oneself, it is fraught with deception. Some are
deliberate; some unavoidable.

The world will not have us be anything it cannot use.

It will use and reuse us as necessary to unravel its
own mystery. This mystery is what caused us to be.
This misuse has caused us to become.

The world will not have us be anything it cannot use.
This knowledge alone is both useful and useless. Discover
or change one thing in the world and it will reprove itself.

We will not have the world be anything we can not use.

Thanks, Joni. :-)

These photos were taken during my Red Cross service in Baton Rouge & New Orleans, three and a half weeks after Hurricanes Katrina & Rita utterly decimated the Gulf Coast.

I don't know why, but I thought images from that time were appropriate for this poem. None were staged in any way, shot just as they presented themselves. I have so many.

I may have to write at length about my time there, the great people I met, the shared experiences, the stories, the tragedy of the aftermath.

And it continues, you know. To the great shame of this slowly crumbling and hijacked nation.

For you to write a poem like this it's because you've allowed for the tip of the pen to be a bridge between your soul and the surface of the paper.
It has so much to do with creators and creations. It has so much to do with purposes for the acquiring of knowledge. It is all about life.
It's all about free will.

Have a good week, Joseph :)

Jonice, I am going to ask you to write a blurb for my next book. You know, one of those things that appears on the back of books saying what a great guy or gal the writer is, how their work is of such utmost importance, even if it isn't.

This is what I liked: For you to write a poem like this it's because you've allowed for the tip of the pen to be a bridge between your soul and the surface of the paper.

I have thought this very thing about so many writers that have taught me that to write in any other manner, whatever style or viewpoint it may be, is an act of artistic treason against oneself.

Thank you for your kind words. I so truly appreciate that my teachers have taught me well. :-)
